President Tinubu warns that ECOWAS would not tolerate political unrest in the Republic of Niger.

In response to the developing situation in the Republic of Niger, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stated that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is still opposed to any political unrest in the neighboring country of Niger.

In a statement he personally wrote on Wednesday and sent to State House Correspondents, Tinubu issued a warning that the ECOWAS leadership would not tolerate any actions that would obstruct the effective exercise of legitimate authority in Niger or any other region of West Africa

The information coming in from the Republic of Niger, he quickly responded, reveals some bad developments involving the nation's senior political leadership.

He claimed that everyone involved in the Republic of Niger should be aware that the ECOWAS leadership and all supporters of democracy around the world will not stand by while the nation's democratically elected government is rendered powerless.

"I want to let you know that we are keenly watching the situation and developments in Niger, and we will do everything in our ability to make sure that democracy is firmly planted, nurtured, deeply established, and flourishes in our region.

"I am closely working with other regional leaders to defend our hard-won democracy in accordance with the widely regarded constitutionalist concept.

"I declare unequivocally that I am the Chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government."
